Social Media

To the people who post:

There’s a quote by John Paul Dejoria, a self-made billionaire who is best known as a co-founder of the Paul Mitchell line of hair products and The Patron Spirits Company, that goes something like this, “If you have something bad to say about someone, say it to them face to face, behind closed doors. If you have something good to say about someone, say it out loud!” He mentioned this when answering a question about how he’s able to have companies that people love to work for.

And so the same goes for us with our family and friends. If we have something good to say about them, why not post it on social media to tell the world. If your kid accomplished something great, or you have something amazing to say about your spouse, say it out loud and post it on social media! And don’t ever let anyone tell you this is wrong, that this is showing off, or boasting, or creating a fake happy life on social media.

And here’s a great advantage of posting only positive things and happy moments about you and yours on social media. Gratitude is the ultimate remedy to get you out of a sad or depressed state, and looking back at what you’ve posted on social media can be a great instigator of gratitude. You start seeing all the happy moments and great things that have occurred in your life and become grateful for what you have.

To the people that view other’s posts:

If you find yourself criticizing people that are posting one of their happy moments or showing what they’ve achieved, bought, or where they traveled to, remember that they are not the problem. Envy can quickly creep up while viewing other’s posts and before you know it you might find yourself asking why you can’t have what they do or why you’re not able to take those vacations or accomplish those things. The words “it’s not fair” might even come up.

If you find yourself in that envious state whenever you’re on social media, the best thing is to cut back on it, or at least on viewing other’s posts, and practice gratitude which can eradicate envy. One can not expect to be happy for the fortunes of others if they don’t see their own fortunes.
